GMP Standards and Factory Construction

GMP Standards and Factory Construction

Product Standards, or GMP are standards and systems for the production process initiated by Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards to manage and control primary environmental standards of the production process of any factories and to be the practical guideline for consumers’ safety. GMP controls mainly the sanitation in food production in industrial factories, which covers 6 elements as follows

1. Hygiene of the Location and Production Plants
2. Tools, Machines, and Devices for Production
3. Production Process Control
4. Sanitation
5. Maintenance and Cleaning
6. Personnel

Regarding sanitation and safety of the production plant locations, guidelines and considerations concerning the construction planning are as follows

The Location
The buildings and surrounding areas must locate on a place where the production process and the products are not easily contaminated. The guidelines are as follows,
1. No Accumulation of Waste.
2. No Accumulation of Garbage.
3. No Above-Average-Level of Pollution.
4. No Dangerous Articles.
5. No Livestock Farming Nearby.
6. No Filthy and Stagnant Water.
7. Needs of Sanitary Sewer to Drain Wastewater

The Buildings or Factories
The buildings and factories that meet the standard quality of GMP should have appropriate size and be designed and constructed to be easy in maintenance, cleaning, to be convenient at work, and could prevent the contamination in production process and products. Food production areas are supposed to be separated from the residence and other production plants. There must be enough spaces to install tools. The place must be convenient for productions and divided into sections to prevent the contamination.

The qualities of the building, floor, wall, and the ceiling of production plants are as follows,
1. The floors are strong, smooth, easy to clean, slope enough not to have stagnant water, and have proper water sewer.
2. There must be enough light for work.
3. It must be well ventilated, not damp or humid.
4. There must be preventive measures for the contamination from pests and insects.
5. There are no waste materials or unrelated things in the production areas.

It is necessary that the food factories meet the standards of GMP in order that the products are great quality and safe for consumers and to gain trust from business partners and consumers. Regarding building a food factory that meets the standards of GMP, it is recommended to choose a professional and experienced construction company as a contractor for convenient and smooth authorization and construction.
